This is a difficult to find reversing camera as they are made up
specially for our supplier. They use a 1/3" Sharp CCD sensor and this
is aided by high quality circuits for processing the signal. The result
is a very good quality image even for a CCD camera. It is designed to
fit the vertical wall at the rear of a vehicle with the cable fed into
the body undeneath the dome. There is a small degree of adjustment of
angle. It has a viewing angle of 120 degrees and is fitted with IR LEDs
for night vision.
The image above was taken with the camera mounted on a vertical surface
with the lens angled up. The Sharp CCD sensor gives a good colour and
clear image. The shadow of my motorhome is about 12 foot in length and
the missing bit of the kerb was around 6 foot from my tow bar.
This image shows the lens pointing down. If you look very carefully you
can see my tow ball just off the centre of the image. Although you
cannot see the rear of the vehicle it is just off the image. The camera
was around 7 foot high on the vertical surface of my motorhome.
Although the car looks some distance away it is only around 20 foot.
The wide angle lens gives a good view across the rear of the vehicle,
but it does make judging distances of objects further away more
difficult.
This image was taken using this camera at night. The road is an average
main road in an urban area. The CCD cameras give an excellent night
view and can cope well with car headlights.
